There's plenty of cash left in the Evoque cash cow – or at least that's what the top brass at Land Rover believe, as they announce that a convertible version of the popular SUV is to be built.
The company made the announcement ahead of the 2015 Geneva Motor Show this week.
In a promotional stunt to highlight the news, JLR made a video of the new convertible – decked out in a camouflage livery – driving through London's Crossrail tunnels deep below the capital.
“The tunnels are still under construction," said Murray Dietsch, Director of Land Rover Programmes, "so we had a unique opportunity to explore the vehicle’s all-terrain ability in unchartered territory.”
Set to dramatic music, the video shows the convertible speeding through the unfinished tunnels 40 metres below street level, and overcoming a variety of obstacles and water hazards with ease.
After dodging a low-hanging crane the leopard-like Evoque slips back into a lorry, with the words: "Capability, performance and comfort, tested to Land Rover's rigorous standards."
The new model is good news for Jaguar Land Rover workers at the firm's Halewood facility, where the Convertible will be built alongside three- and five-door Evoques.
Evoque fans first caught a glimpse of the Convertible back in 2012.
For those among our car breakdown cover clients considering purchasing an Evoque Convertible, the car will be available to buy in 2016. Pricing information has not yet been released.
