A man appears to have been caught on video running a set of keys down the body of a £100,000 Aston Martin.
The supercar was parked up in a supermarket car park in Hackney, east London, when the alleged incident took place.
The man in question is captured on a dashboard camera as he pushes a pram near the vehicle, before looking left and right – apparently checking that the coast is clear.
He then moves down the side of the car and out of shot. A scraping sound can be heard on the video sound track.
The damage will cost £9,000 to repair, according to police.
The owner of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage parked up near shops in Morning Lane, Hackney, on Friday June 19. He left his dashboard camera running as he went to the shops.
A few moments later, the man with the pram arrived.
It is not clear why the footage was released by the police so long after the alleged incident.
Does regular car insurance cover paint damage?
A comprehensive car insurance policy may provide cover for damage to paintwork caused by vandalism. However, policies can differ, so the policyholder should read the full terms and conditions to ascertain what is and what is not covered.
In most cases, the damage must be caused by a qualifying event (such as vandalism) – not regular wear and tear.
Those without comprehensive cover will be less likely to be covered for vandalism to paintwork.
