Thought that McLaren's 570S coupe was the most affordable offering from the British sports car firm? Think again.
McLaren has released details of its new 540C Coupe model – named, like the other models further up the range, after the horsepower output of the engine (although the precise hp here is 533).
While the 540C has certainly been developed to be more user friendly and practical, it is still an extremely fast car. It can reach 62mph in just 3.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 199mph.
As with all current non-F1 McLarens, the 540C Coupe is built around the firm's 3.8 litre twin turbo V8.
And like the other models, this new entry level car will feature carbon fibre chassis technology. However, design-wise it won't be quite like the top-of-the-range model; the 540C will be much easier to access, for example.
From the company's sales literature and from the images released, the 540C looks fairly similar to its more expensive cousin, the 570S. But a closer inspection reveals a few design detail differences.
The 540C's interior boasts leather seats as standard and a seven inch touchscreen for controlling many of the vehicle's functions.
All this is available for the bargain basement price of £126,000. Of course, there will surely be plenty of options to increase that figure.
