A startrescue.co.uk story...

The Porsche GT4 represents the quickest and most race-track-centric incarnation of its Cayman so far, details of which have just been revealed by the German sports car firm.

The teaser images from Porsche will no doubt excite Porsche-fans everywhere – but so will the technical specifications.

Under the bonnet is a 380bhp 3.8-litre flat-six engine – a derivative of that found in the 911 Carrera S. The Cayman GT4 takes just 4.4 seconds to reach 62mph, and delivers an adrenaline-pumping top speed of 183mph.

There's no PDK twin-clutch automatic alternative to the six speed manual gearbox.

Downforce in the GT4 has been upped with three nose inlets, together with a substantial rear fixed wing.

Compared to the standard Cayman, the GT4 is 30mm lower and boasts a thoroughly re-tuned chassis that shares numerous commonalities with the 911 GT3.

Along with bi-Xenon headlamps, the standard model includes dynamic engine mounts, a sports exhaust, AC, leather and Alcantara trim and Porsche Torque Vectoring.

If these impressive specs aren't enough, buyers can add ceramic brakes, carbon fibre reinforced plastic seats and a Club Sport Package.

This is certainly a muscular car – a fact that probably underlies the decision by Porsche to offer a personal driving course at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone, included in the price. It might be best for those unused to such power to take them up on the offer!

Those among our breakdown cover customers keen to buy a GT4 will be able to take delivery of one in the summer.
